Last day of Half term

I always get a little sad on the last day of the half term break. I love having my children at home with me and wish they did not have to go to school, though I know they need to.

Today has been quite a rainy day, but the garden certainly needed lots of rain. My veggie patch is coming on a treat. The cauliflowers are quite large. The butternut squash(yummy, my favourite!) are looking much better than last year. The cabbages, carrots , beans and onions look to be doing well also. I did not realise we had planted quite so many potatoes. I am not quite sure what we will be doing with all those yet. We did have our strawberry ready to pick, but I have been looking after Barney(my mums beautiful red boarder collie) and he decided he was going to be first to eat a strawberry. Bless him.

The chickens were not so impressed with the rain. They still managed to lay 17 eggs today but they were not their usual chirpy selves. Poor things, they were covered in mud. Their run was very muddy. In fact I had a bit of a mishap and decided to go mud sliding in their run. Not one of my smartest ideas!!! My daughter found it highly amusing though.

My poor son was feeling very anxious about school tomorrow. At bedtime he became all cuddly and tearful. He finds school so difficult, especially socially. He also very much likes routine and now he has had a week at home he is not looking forward to tomorrow. I am sure he will be fine once he gets there though.

Well thats about all for now. I have been busy working on my final college assignment and feel quite ready for bed now.

10 Reasons to be hapopy!

1. I have 2 beautiful healthy children and a lovely husband.

2. I have the best mum in the world. She has had a tough few years with a nasty road accident and then breast cancer. She was so brave and strong both times, selflessly worrying about everyone else even whilst she was so unwell. I am happy she was strong and got better. She is not only my mum but my best friend.

3. I have my cheeky chickens and cuddly guinea pigs.

4. My son read a page of a "Horrid Henry" book. A few months ago he could not even read. He finds so many things difficult but his determination to succeed always makes me smile.

5. My daughter has been so helpful today and in such a lovely mood.

6. It is looking positive that my husband will be home for Christmas this year. He has only been home twice for Christmas in the last 8 years.

7. I have nearly learnt my new violin tune.

8. I have finished the rather large ironing pile.

9. My babies have laid me 18 beautiful eggs today. Its a good excuse to bake some cakes tomorrow.

10. I know it was naughty but it made me feel happy, I have just eaten a Curly wurly.

It has been a bit of a stressful day so this list has really helped to lift my spirits. I had a bad weigh in at Slimming World and then a few thing continued to go wrong during the day, but thats all over with now and I have tomorrow to look forward to. I always love that first thing in the morning feeling when my son and I walk down the garden and get the chickens up. It is lovely to hear the chickens clucking and the birds singing. Early mornings have to be my favourite time of the day.

Introduction

I have contemplated for a while about writing a blog, just to put my thoughts into words. I spend long periods of time alone since my husband is a chief officer in the Merchant Navy and in the evenings I seem to have a lot of thoughts.

I have 2 beautiful children, a daughter who is 10 and a very lively young lady. She does well at school and loves swimming, guides, reading and anything sporty really.

My little boy has just had his 7th Birthday. He has dyspraxia which has effected his speech more than anything. He did not start talking until he was 4 and he is still having lots of speech therapy. He attends a school with a speech and language unit to help him. I am so very proud of the progress he is making. He has struggled with his reading, writing and maths as well as every day things such as eating, using a knife and fork and getting dressed, but every day he makes such great progress and his words the other evening reduced me to tears. He said, "Mummy, I keep trying and trying and getting better and better." I feel very blessed to have 2 such beautiful children.

My other" babies" are my 22 lovely hens, Banana, Albertina, Feathers, Cleopatra, Grommit, Star, Roberta Blue, Bluebell, Orange, Kiwi, Rocky, Roxy, Apple Crumble, Rhubarb Crumble, fern, Caramel, Willow, Custard, Rosemary, Wilma, Hillary and Wendoline. they are probably the most cheekiest and spoilt chickens ever. My son adores them and spends lots of time cuddling them. They follow us around the garden and get up to lots of mischief. My poor hubby fell off the ladder trying to rescue one from the neighbour's roof a few weeks ago. I would not be without them though and their eggs are delicous.

My husband left to join his ship just 3 days ago so it has been quiet here. I always thought it would get easier to say goodbye, but it never does. I have my children and chickens to keep me busy though and also college work as I am training to be a Teaching Assistant. I get to spend one day a week in a Primary school working with 4 and 5 year olds which I always look forward to. I am also learning to play the violin which I enjoy very much.

My husband always says I should have been born 50 years ago as he thinks I am very old fashioned and the simplest of things in life please me. Money can not buy love and happiness. My family makes me happy.
